Keep Split Ends At Bay, The Natural Way!

Split ends!  We all get them from time to time, and nobody likes them!  Like a diet that allows you to eat everything at once, a treatment for split ends that allows you to abuse your hair on a daily basis is never going to happen.

But, there are ways to keep the dreaded splits at bay.  Our hair is very delicate and modern living, along with harsh styling products and heated appliances, can cause the hair shaft to weaken causing nasty split ends.  Eventually the end will split further causing the hair to break off entirely!  Eww!  Far better then, to keep you hair healthy by looking after it from end to tip.  Adding more chemicals lotions and potions to your hair that promise to banish those pesky ends forever could only make the problem worse.  So in times of need, turn to Mother Nature for ways get your hair glowing again. Here are my 3 favourite natural remedies for keeping you hair in tip top health:

eggs and lemon

Use eggs, lemon and honey to sort out split ends

Eggs

Yep, that’s right, I said eggs!  The high protein levels in eggs have long been known for their high levels of nutrients and softening properties. Using an “Egg mask” will help you strengthen the roots as well as condition your hair to get rid of split ends. Super simple to make, just whisk one egg  with few drops of lemon juice (or more than one egg if you have very long hair) until the mixture is foamy and cover your scalp and hair with it.  You can also add a drop of honey for added strength and a beautiful, lasting scent.  Leave for 20 minutes then shower off as usual!  Eh voila! Lovely, shiny hair that has added strength and no extra needless chemical compounds to contend with.  Repeat as necessary!

avocado

Avocado and almond oil – great for adding moisture

2. Avocados

The humble avocado doesn’t only give you soft skin and make a wicked guacamole dip, it’s wonderful oily properties are also easily absorbed by dry and split hair.  The Egyptians first discovered the healing properties of avocado and this remedy works just as well today.  Just mash up some avocado’s, add a little almond oil and leave on your hair for about 30 minutes.  Wash off well, and enjoy lovely, shiny, soft feeling hair. If you are clever, just use half and save the other half to dip your chips into later!

Chamomile-Tea

3. Chamomile Tea

Ah, a lovely cup of chamomile tea!  Good for enjoying at any time of day.  But did you know that  a chamomile tonic can also work wonders for your hair?  Of all  my favourite home remedies, this is perhaps the easiest! Just rinse you hair in cooled chamomile tea, using at least two tea bags at a time. If you have fair hair, the yellow colour of a chamomile tea tonic also imparts brightness and shine to you hair as well. Bonus!  Rinsing with chamomile can help to reduce or prevent hair loss and split ends developing in dry, frizzy, over-worked hair.  Chamomile also smells delicious so no need to undo all your good work with a dehydrating shampoo or conditioner after you have used it. Now pour yourself a delicious cuppa, and sit back and enjoy your soft, strong and shiny hair.
